Look and Live
John 3:14-16 (ESV) “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son…”
The Israelites had sinned against God and they were afflicted with serpents that brought them sickness and death. Dying- they called to God for help and forgiveness They only had to look at the bronze serpent and they lived. Jesus told Nicodemus, “That was a picture of Me.” One look of faith to the crucified and risen Son, and spiritual death turns to eternal life.
Evidently Nicodemus believed and became a follower of Jesus. He would one day help bury that lifted-up Son with extravagant love (John 19:39). His midnight questions led him to daylight faith. The same invitation stands today: stop striving, start looking. Look to Jesus and live.
