Jesus’ first sign at Cana turned water into wine, manifesting His glory so that His disciples believed in Him (John 2:11). This miracle pointed beyond the event to who Jesus is—the One who reveals God’s glory. Then John traces Jesus’ path: from Cana to Jerusalem and back to Cana. In Jerusalem Jesus performs several signs at the feast. People believe on the signs, but they may miss the larger point that the signs point to a greater truth. Signs are good, but they are pointers. If we see a sign, but we don’t overwhelmingly see that they are pointing to the power and deity of Jesus then we have missed their purpose. Lord, help me see Your glory in Christ, not just in what You do for me, but in who You are. May my faith rest in You alone.
