The Reward of Simple Obedience

John 2:5, 7-8 – “His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’… Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.”

The servants obeyed Mary and Jesus without fully understanding—filling jars, drawing out—leading to a miracle. Their obedience led to Jesus turning the water to wine.

Obedience, even in mundane tasks, positions us for God’s power. The servants knew the secret; the disciples saw glory (John 2:11). Jesus promises even greater things to those who believe. (John 1:50).

In small acts such as reading Scripture, praying, or serving obey promptly. Don’t let your salvation grow cold; see yourself drawing “water” that becomes wine of eternal reward.
