You Must Be Born Again
John 3:3 “Jesus answered him, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.’”
Jesus didn’t compliment Nicodemus’ theological training. He went straight to the heart: your first birth isn’t enough. Natural birth, Jewish ancestry, perfect rule-keeping—none of it grants access to God’s kingdom. You need a second birth, one that only God can give.
This is offensive and liberating at the same time. Offensive, because it says all our best efforts are worthless for salvation. Liberating, because it means salvation isn’t something we achieve—it’s something we receive.
Are we trusting our performance or God’s promise? Our performance will never be sufficient to save us. The work Jesus accomplished on the cross is entirely sufficient and necessary for our salvation.
